Use this form to request professional captioning for instructional videos. To help us stretch captioning support to as many courses as possible, please try self-editing captions first using the guides on the Canvas Digital Accessibility Training Hub - Video Accessibility Resources. Guides and tutorials cover Youtube, Canvas, and Panopto.

Requirements Before Submitting for Professional Captioning

All of the following must be true:

Hosted access: YouTube set to Public or Unlisted OR Panopto set to “anyone with the link.”
- Note: To avoid delays, please check this before submitting. If a video is private/restricted, we’ll ask you to adjust the settings and resubmit.
Reused over multiple terms.
Instructional content (course-related; not announcements/marketing).
Less than or equal to 60 minutes in length.

Prioritization

Due to limited funding, requests that meet the requirements above will be prioritized based on:

Accommodation-related needs
Complex/discipline-specific terminology or multiple speakers/challenging audio, making self-edits time-consuming
High enrollment or Core class

Audio description

In some cases, audio description is required to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Opens in New Tab) when important visual information is not conveyed in the existing audio. If all visual information is already in the spoken track, audio description may not be necessary. See the Digital Accessibility Hub - Captions, Transcripts, and Audio Descriptions for guidance and options if you are unsure whether you need or have audio description.

Turnaround and costs

Standard turnaround is 7 to 14 business days.

Before submitting

Ensure the video link is accessible to captioners (e.g., Panopto “anyone with the link,” YouTube unlisted/public).
